Trip to Coorg Jungle Camp Backwater Resort, Kushalnagar, Coorg

If you want to take a break from the urban life, Coorg (Karnataka, India), is a very good option for that. Coorg, is not too far from Bangalore and even closer from Mysore, has cooler weather, amazing Coffee Plantations and some very good Resorts to stay and the food here is just awesome.

We have been to Coorg a number of times and we were never disappointed. Coorg or the Kodagu district has 2 major towns: Madikeri, which is the head quarter of the District and Kushalnagar, which is the gateway to the District.

This time, we stayed at Coorg Jungle Camp Backwater Resort near Kushalnagar and the main purpose of this trip was to relax and spend a day away from the hustle and bustle of Bangalore. There is no public transport to get there, you can either drive or hire a cab to get there. Alternatively, you can take the bus to Kushalnagar and request the Resort beforehand to send a cab to pick you up.

Coorg Jungle Camp Backwater Resort is about 260 Km from Bangalore and takes about 5 and half hours if you are not taking a break. There are two roads to get there, NH 275 or the Mysore Road and NH 75. We prefer the NH 75 as this one has relatively lesser traffic and the roads are better. Most of the eateries in this Highway are near Kunigal, so, if you are planning for a break during your drive, this would be the ideal place.

The last 6 km to the Resort is under construction and is bad. However, once you reach the Resort, you will be transported into serenity. The Harangi Reservoir just behind the Resort is amazing and the foggy mornings adds to its charm. The food here is very good. The staff is courteous and there is ample parking as well. The gardens inside the Resort are well maintained and they have live music in the evenings. There is a swimming pool as well overlooking the Harangi Reservoir.

For sightseeing in Coorg, and if you don’t want to drive, the Resort arranges for cabs. If you want to cover all the attractions in the Coorg District, it will take a couple of days.

On the way back, we visited the Namdroling Monastery in Bylakuppe, Kushalnagar which is a teaching centre for Tibetan Buddhism. This is one of the key attractions of Coorg.
