Coorg, the lush green district of Karnataka, India has Sandalwood Forests and a number of plantations. Tea and Coffee Plantations are quite common in the higher altitudes. There are plenty of resorts in this region and if you want to have a local kind of feel, home stays can be a good option.

Coorg has a large number of attractions and if you are planning to cover most of the attractions, you would need at least 2 days. A lot of attractions are near Madikeri, a few near Kushal Nagar while some others are relatively far.

We will list down some of the Key Attractions of Coorg so that you can plan your Coorg Sight Seeing accordingly.

Abbey Falls: Abbey Falls is one of the most popular attractions in Coorg. It’s easy to reach, just about 5 km from the town of Madikeri. The falls is just a short walk away from the parking. We didn’t find too much water in April, but it stays beautiful in the Monsoons.

Raja’s Seat: This is a park just on the outskirts of Madikeri Town and offers excellent views of the Surroundings. This is an ideal place to watch the Sunset and it is a pretty popular place for the tourists.

Madikeri Fort: This is also in Madikeri and was built in the 17th century and Tipu Sultan rebuilt it later. This fort has offices now and is a good spot, if you are a history buff and there is a museum inside.

Raja’s Tomb: There are tombs which contains the mortal remains of the Kodava Rulers. This is close to Madikeri town, but it is not well maintained.

If you are staying close to Madikeri, you can cover all the above pretty easily.

The next set of attractions are closer to Kushal Nagar.

Nisargadhama: This place is about 3 KM from Kushal Nagar Town and is an island on the Kaveri River. A hanging bridge takes you inside and transports you to nature. The river flows on the side and forests accompany you on the paths. The are some adventure sports available as well and you can spend some time by the river.

Namdroling Monastery: This Tibetan Buddhist Monastery is about 5 KM from Kushal Nagar Town and we have written details about this in our other article on Coorg and you can read about it here: https://styletravelandmore.com/coorg-part-1/

Dubare Elephant Camp: This is a camp for the elephants of the Forest Department. You can get close to this majestic animal and this is really a great experience. However, to reach there, you will need to cross the Kaveri River. We visited in April and water was less, so boats were not available and we had to cross the river on foot. The stones on the river are quite slippery and crossing it is challenging.

River Rafting: There are quite a few places along the river where you can do river rafting. These take place in safer areas of the river and can be a nice experience if you have not done river rafting before.

Iruppu Falls: This water fall is about 75 KM from both Madikeri and Kushal Nagar and takes more than 2 hours to reach from both the towns. The falls is much bigger than Abbey Falls and requires a bit of hike to reach here. Since this waterfall is far, you would need a separate day for this. You can club this with visit Nagarhole Safari in the Nagarhole National Park and Tiger Reserve which is close by.
