The Southern Indian State of Kerala offers abundance of places for tourists to enjoy. In this Travel Guide, we will focus on the Districts of Kannur and Kasargod. These 2 districts are the Northern most districts of Kerala and has Historical Forts, Amazing Beaches and Temples. There are plenty of Hotels/Resorts available in both the districts.

You can choose to stay in any of the Beach Resorts if you like to spend more time in the sea. If you want to stay in a city, you can stay in Kannur, Kasargod or Thalassery.

Bekal Fort is the largest Fort in Kerala and is definitely, a must watch. It was built in 1650 and was later used by Tipu Sultan and British East Indian Company. The views from this fort are magnificent, and the fort appears to emerge from the sea.

Bekal Beach is at the foot of the fort and you can get views of the fort while enjoying the sand the sea. There is also a park around the beach and is an ideal place for enjoying the Sunset.

Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach is one of the best beaches that I have ever visited in India. The 1.5 Km beach is hard and you can drive in this beach. The beach is clean and driving on the beach is definitely an amazing experience. Just ensure that you don’t drive too close to the water.

Payyambalam Beach is in the city of Kannur and is relatively more crowded. However, it is pretty clean and there are stalls for food and soft drinks. There is also a light house close by.

Fort St. Angelos is also in the Kannur City and construction of this fort started in 1505 by the Portugese.

Tellicherry Fort in Thalassery is another place worth a visit. Though built in the early 18th century, this fort is better preserved and has imposing structure.

So, these are the main attractions in these 2 districts, and you can cover them in 2 or 3 days.

There are also a number of Temples and Churches in both these districts which you can visit based on your interest.

Mangalore Airport is closer to Kasargod and Calicut Airport is closer to Kannur. Both the cities are well connected by Railways. If you are travelling from Bangalore, there are overnight buses available as well.

Happy Journey!
