Coorg is one of the best Hill Station District in Karnataka. Lush green Coffee Plantations, Unique Food, Waterfalls and Viewpoints make this district, a popular tourist destination.
This July, we visited The Birchwood Retreat in Coorg. This resort is situated between Kushalnagar and Madikeri. The resort is about 6 hours drive from Bangalore and the roads are decent even during the monsoons. It is located just by the state highway, which makes the approach road good. Though the villas and rooms are situated in the coffee plantation, the proximity of the highway means some of the rooms get the sound of the vehicles plying there. However, we did not find that annoying as chirping of the birds ensured that we get the nice feeling of staying away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
This is a pet friendly resort and we could travel with our fur baby 😊. The area within the resort is very well maintained. We stayed in the King Room with Coffee Estate View and the room was spacious and well maintained. It also included a large balcony. Since we were travelling with our fur baby, we had requested them to remove the carpets from the room before we arrived and we were happy to see that the carpets were removed from the room when we arrived. The food here is pretty good, though options are limited. The complimentary breakfast also had a decent spread.
Mobile signals are not too good in the resort, but we got very good WiFi in the room.
The villas and rooms are spread in a large, well maintained compound, so we could enjoy ourselves even when it was raining and our fur baby had a very good time. Below are the pictures of the beautiful compound.
From a location standpoint, this place is ideal. A little drive downhill is Kushalnagar, which has the Namdroling Monastery Golden Temple and Nisargadhama Forest Park. A little drive uphill is Madikeri which has quite a few tourist attractions.
If one has a plan of not visiting any tourist place and just want to relax in the lap of nature, this place lives up to that as well.
