Kerala in India is a dream state for the Tourists. It has Amazing Beaches, Magnificent Back Waters, Lush Green Mountains just to name a few. Kerala is marketed as “God’s Own Country” and it receives tourists from different countries of the world.
The Place that we are going to talk about in this article is Varkala. We have been to quite a few sea side destinations both in India and abroad, but we can safely say that Varkala is unique and the uniqueness of this place comes from it’s Cliff.
The Cliff is more than a Kilometer long and it is lined with Shops. These shops are different in look and feel, very different from any other Indian Markets. It has Curio Shops, Shops for Souvenirs, Food Joints serving delicacies from around the world, Quaint Cafes and Yoga Centres.
Throughout the Cliff, you get amazing views of the Sea. You can spend hours sitting on the cafes overlooking the Sea and still you would not get bored.
One side of the Cliff ends near the Papanasam beach. This beach offers Water Sports, excellent for Sun Bathing and you will find Yoga Camps on the sea shore in the morning.
Another place you can visit is the Kappil Beach. This is an interesting place with Sea on one side and Backwaters on the other.
There’s a Janardhana Temple as well, if you want to pay a visit.
The nearest Airport to Varkala is the Trivandrum Airport which is 45 Kms (28 Miles) away and it takes about an hour and half.
If you are travelling from Bangalore, there are Overnight Trains available and you can reach Varkala in the morning. The station is about 3 Kms (2 Miles) away and you can get Auto Rickshaws and Taxis easily.
That’s it from us, if you have visited Varkala, do let us know what you thought about the place in the comments section.
