Action movies are one of the most popular genres in movies and there are plenty of action movies that you can watch. In this article, I will list down some of the action movies/ TV series which are different from a regular action flick and will explain what makes them different from the others.
Into the Badlands: This American TV Series is set on a Future World where a Feudal system exists in an area governed by 5 barons. No Guns exists in this world and Warriors, called as clippers work for the barons to maintain order. The Power struggles between the barons and then a bigger threat defines the storyline. This is the best TV Series that I have seen when it comes to Martial Arts. Interesting storylines with ample scopes of action and thrills make this series a riveting watch. This is not a normal action flick, you will not find too many Martial Arts TV Series, that too set on a very different world. All the 3 seasons of this series are available in Amazon Prime.
John Wick: Keanu Reeves stars in this extreme high-octane action movie series. 3 movies are available to watch and the 4th is in Production. John Wick is an ex hitman on an organised Underworld. When his wife dies, he leans on his puppy for emotional support. When the puppy is killed, he returns to the underworld for revenge and things get crazy. The underworld network, The Continental Hotel which provides shelter and support to the hitmen and takes a different form of currency, the mind-blowing action of Keanu Reeves elevates this movie series beyond a normal action flick. The first John Wick movie is available in Netflix. The 2nd and 3rd part are not available in Netflix or Amazon Prime in India, but is available on some other online platforms.
Mad Max: Fury Road: This Post-Apocalyptic, on the run action flick stars brilliant actors like Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. Shot in the desert with ample action and chase sequences makes this a perfect high adrenaline action movie and it won 10 Academy Award Nominations. None of the action sequences resembles anything that you have seen before and this is as original as it can get. Mad Max: Fury Road is available in Amazon Prime.
The Chronicles of Riddick: This sci-fi action movie series is like an acquired taste. You might not like it at all, but if you do, you would be glued to it. This movie series is set in the distant future where people live in different galaxies and travel from planets to planets and revolves around the character of Riddick (Vin Diesel). The first movie of this series was ‘Pitch Black’ and then it was followed by ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ and ‘Riddick’. There are a couple of short films on this ecosystem as well. The movie ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ is available on Amazon Prime.
Extraction: The main reason that this movie appears in this list is because this is one of the most recent action movies that you can find. Produced by the famous Russo Brothers (Directors of Captain America Movies and the last 2 Avengers Movies) has Chris Hemsworth (Thor in the Marvel Universe) in the lead. Set in Bangladesh, the story is based on the kidnapping of the son of India’s biggest Drug Lord by the biggest Drug Lord of Bangladesh. Chris plays a black-market mercenary who is hired to extract the kidnapped boy from the clutches of the Bangladeshi Drug Lord. There are plenty of twists and turns in the movie and plenty of chase sequences. The movie is good but since there were so many big names involved, the expectations of this movie were too high and probably this one fails to reach that. However, this movie is still worth a watch if you love action movies. This one is a Netflix original and is a massive hit in Netflix.
There are plenty of action movies available, however I tried to list down some of the unique ones which you can enjoy. One statutory warning though, please don’t try the action sequences at home. 😊
